An Enthusiast’s Venture
It all began in 2014 atthe Darwin Ecosystem, where Arthur Audibert set up his roasting workshop. At a time when specialty coffee was still a niche market, he championed a rigorous approach: selecting exceptional beans, mastering every stage of the roasting process, and highlighting the work of the producers. Success came quickly. After opening its first shop on Rue de la Vieille Tour, L’Alchimiste continues to expand today with a third location in the heart of the historic center.
A cup that tells a story
At L’Alchimiste, coffee doesn’t begin behind the espresso machine. It originates several thousand kilometers away, on plantations in Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, or Ethiopia. Rather than purchasing beans from an anonymous market, the company builds lasting relationships with a select group of producers. The coffees are then roasted in Bordeaux before being prepared with great precision. The baristas take the time to explain the flavor profiles, origins, and extraction methods.
The menu reflects this philosophy with a carefully curated and expertly crafted selection. This quality was recently recognized when the specialty coffee shop was ranked 37th among the best coffee shops in Europe.
