What if, behind an unassuming door in downtown Bordeaux, there were a whole world waiting to be explored? With its old stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and passageways that look like something straight out of a movie set, Atelier B doesn’t really resemble a typical game bar. While the building’s history adds a distinctive touch to its atmosphere, its passionate manager has turned it into a unique hybrid space. It’s well worth a visit, whether you’re a game enthusiast or not.
From a vanilla shop to a painting studio

The first thing you notice when you walk through the bar’s door is its vibrant atmosphere. The stone walls and arches transport you to another world and make you wonder: what could these arcades have once housed?
Before becoming a haven for gaming and reading enthusiasts, the building reportedly housed a vanilla trading post in the 1950s. An old inscription visible on the entrance arch still bears witness to this history. The space then became a stonemason’s workshop in the 1990s before changing purpose again about a decade later. Its new owner set up his painting studio there. The sets designed by the artist completely transformed the space during private parties.
The current manager, Vincent Capdevielle, has now chosen to open this world up to the general public. His goal: to preserve the building’s unique character while creating a space accessible to everyone.
Vincent, a manager passionate about games
Behind Atelier B is Vincent, whose journey has been shaped by a spirit of sharing. While growing up in the world of gastronomy and event planning, he discovered another passion: games. Initially drawn to video games, he gradually turned his attention to board games. His professional journey then naturally led him into publishing, moving from marketing to import-export, and then to game demonstrations. With Atelier B, Vincent has finally brought his diverse experiences together.
