Every year, the Place des Quinconces swaps its usual tranquility for a joyful buzz. The Foire aux Plaisirs is back! Amid the scent of cotton candy, twinkling lights, and shouts mingled with thrills and laughter, Bordeaux welcomes back one of its most eagerly anticipated events. People come here just as much forthe adrenaline rush of the big rides as for family fun. It’s time to reconnect with your inner child, whether for an evening or an afternoon.
A historic and monumental Bordeaux fair
Since 1854, the fair has taken over the Place des Quinconces, transforming it into a veritable playground. However, the origins of the Foire aux Plaisirs date back to 1431. Established by the King of England, it was originally held on the quays, between the Place de la Bourse and the Place de la Monnaie, before its permanent relocation. Back then, there were already a few carousels, as well as magicians, animal trainers, and even flatulents.
Today, fairground operators set up their many attractions there twice a year. It’s a proven success, as each edition is estimated to attract more than 800,000 visitors. This scale makes it one of the largest fairs in France, located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
La Foire aux Plaisirs: Fall 2026 Edition
This fall, the event will take place from October 9 to November 1. A monumental and exhilarating event not to be missed at the familiar Place des Quinconces.
The fair lives up to its promise with no fewer than 80 rides and just as many booths spread across 60,000 square meters. Slides, flying chairs, roller coasters, a ghost train, a mirror maze, a Ferris wheel, and a catapult… The variety of attractions is designed to delight young and old alike.
A whirlwind of thrills
In the adrenaline category, thrill-seekers will find, among other things:
- The Infinity Inversion: a sensational new attraction fresh from Germany! This gigantic swing chain of loops, rotations, and flips through the air.
- The Booster M65: another swing ride that takes you 65 meters high amid a breathtaking sound-and-light show.
- Techno Power: a timeless classic that never gets old—and a bit more accessible than the previous ones.
Attractions for the whole family
Families and children will also find plenty to make their visit unforgettable. Between the flying chairs, the “Palais du Rire,” and the ghost train, the hardest part will be choosing among the twenty or so family-friendly attractions.
The little ones aren’t left out, with trampolines, fun and playful obstacle courses, water bubbles, and magical rides. Not to mention the traditional shooting galleries, duck fishing, and raffles. Finally, the food stands (cotton candy, churros, candy apples) will keep the fun going.
Charity event and discounted admission
To mark the opening on Friday, October 9, a charity event will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to benefit two organizations. L’Œuvre des Pupilles and the Gironde Departmental Firefighters’ Union (UDSP33) will receive all proceeds from this special evening. A €20 ride pass will provide unlimited access to the attractions: the perfect opportunity to have fun while showing solidarity.
