All over the city of Gironde, women are taking over the urban space. On and off the walls, women are in turn muses and artists, plural and committed. As International Women’s Rights Day approaches, Bordeaux Secret brings you the finest street art celebrating women with stencils and bombs!
The unspoken cries of @morganevisconti
Women roar and take their place in urban space in this work combining collage, photos and text. Morgane Visconti offers us a committed feminist project. “Why are you screaming, Aurore?” All generations and social classes are invited to raise a cry in the public space. A liberating cry, beyond the walls, accompanied by a poetic text, a true testimony from each of the screamers. A cry that disturbs, challenges and denounces the social norms imposed on women. The idea: stop silencing those suppressed cries!
Portraits of women by Nasti
Nasti ‘s work is brimming with feminism. The graffiti artist represents women in all their diversity, across all generations, social classes and origins. They all have a message to get across, through the always defiant, piercing and almost troubling gaze of these women with their realistic lines and raised eyebrows, like a big question mark! Here, his work on Rue du Mulet.
Stop violence against women by @f2b_art
Here a work signed #F2bart, to support the fight against violence against women. Once again, a disturbing look and the words “FRAGILE”, with the same typology as on moving boxes, assigned to the woman like a slogan that sticks to her skin… In his work, F2b uses the codes of advertising, marketing and pop-culture as a critique of today’s capitalist society.
Women’s portraits by @hopare1
Remember, it was 2014. For the M.U.R Festival, the Pôle Magnétic association invited young visual artist and street artist Hopare, alias Alexandre Monteiro, to decorate 35 square meters of mural. On the wall of the Stendhal school, in the heart of the Chartrons district, nestled this monumental and resolutely feminist work, which will remain engraved on the walls as well as in our memories.
Portrait of a woman by @skou1995
You’re bound to have seen this smile before. Here’s a hint: it’s in La Bastide. You’ve got it, it’s the Darwin fresco, THE playground par excellence for graphics! Indeed, Skou1995 has taken over the walls of the Darwin ecosystem with a commitment all its own. The result? An urban fresco dominates this alternative third-place, and a strong, impactful image: the casual smile of a young woman as if mocking social injunctions…
“This world is your world” by @Jefaerosol
It’s simply impossible to be insensitive to this splendid fresco by Jefaerosol. This little girl holding the world in her hands, painted on the wall of the CHU Pellegrin (Children’s Hospital), forms a work as impressive as it is significant. Full of humanism, this work is unquestionably supportive and feminist.
The colorful women of @alberoner
If you think you’ve ever come across this defiant look in Bordeaux, it’s quite possible. Indeed, graffiti artist Alber is from Bordeaux. At the heart of her work: women, and color! His women assert themselves, vibrant and mysterious at the same time, they question and never leave us indifferent, like this one.
The Wall of Breath by @jeanrooble
Artist Jean Rooble uses spray paint and paintbrushes to take a stand against cystic fibrosis, in support of the Mur du Souffle association. The result? An impressive 5×8-meter fresco under the Ausone station in Bruges. A portrait of Lisa, aged 3, in the art-deco style of Alfons Mucha. Once again, the young girl carries a message, and it’s impossible to remain indifferent to her expression!
