After enjoying the terraces, festivals, parks and guinguettes, the summer vacations have got us craving escapades! How about immortalizing your vacation in one of France’s most Instagrammable locations? According to a recent study by Adobe Express, which analyzes the visual popularity of monuments on social networks, the Grande Dune du Pilat is one of the top 10 most photogenic sites in the country!
Europe’s highest sand dune is beautiful from every angle
We’ve all been to the Dune du Pilat at least once , but do we really know everything? Located just an hour from Bordeaux, this natural gem in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is the highest sand dune in Europe! It’s 101 metres high, 616 metres wide and almost 3 kilometers long (now you know it better). From its summit, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of ocean, Landes forest and sky as far as the eye can see! And it’s a backdrop that lends itself perfectly to vacation snaps. But that’s not all: this natural monument is also alive and kicking! In fact, the Dune du Pilat shifts every year by 1 to 5 metres under the influence of the winds. Scientists are keeping a close eye on this natural dynamic, as the site is so precious and fragile.
That’s why the Dune du Pilat is ranked 10ᵉ at national level, and it’s fair to say it hasn’t stolen its place! With 78% five-star reviews on TripAdvisor, over 330,000 hashtags on Instagram, 163,000 searches on TikTok and 2.7 million Google queries in one year! Even if, as Bordelais who like to make little getaways around the Dune, we’re not surprised, it’s great to see that the whole of France is realizing just how wonderful our region is!
A ranking that makes you want to visit France
As far as the rankings are concerned, it’s obviously the emblem of Paris that comes out on top! But not only in the French rankings, it’s also first in the European rankings! So, in this vacation season, why not take a little trip around the country to see France’s most Instagrammable monuments?
