Jazz has a way of turning an ordinary evening into a moment that feels like time stands still, and Bordeaux has no shortage of places to enjoy it without spending more than €20. From impromptu jam sessions to intimate concerts and tributes to the genre’s greatest legends, the city offers plenty of ways to get swept up in the sound of brass and piano—all at an affordable price.

Free events that keep Bordeaux’s jazz scene alive
In the Saint-Michel neighborhood, PULP hosts “Jam Sessions,” a free event where musicians come to improvise on stage—perfect for a night out after dinner at one of the neighborhood’s many restaurants.
On Sundays, Molly Malone’s extends the weekend with its “Apéros Jazz,” free concerts that bring together local artists and regulars in a laid-back atmosphere.
A journey into the world of jazz legends
If you’re looking for a more immersive experience, The Jazz Room at the Salle de la Faïencerie offers a musical journey inspired by the clubs of New Orleans. For an hour, a live ensemble revisits the greats of jazz and soul— from Louis Armstrong to Frank Sinatra or Marvin Gaye, depending on the concert—in an intimate setting designed as a tribute to the genre’s roots.

To explore the Bordeaux jazz scene further
To discover new artists without breaking the bank, Action Jazz is a must-visit in Gironde. This association of jazz enthusiasts works year-round to support the local scene and organizes, among other things, the Tremplin Action Jazz, an annual event at the Rocher de Palmer in Cenon, easily accessible by tram from Bordeaux. The event showcases emerging jazz talent, and admission is often free with a reservation. The next one will take place in January 2027.
And if you’re looking for other concerts throughout the year, check out La Gazette Bleue, Action Jazz’s webzine. It features a regularly updated calendar of jazz concerts in Gironde, as well as interviews, reviews, and news so you don’t miss a thing about Bordeaux’s jazz scene.
