In the former Chartrons mill, the Faïencerie has been manufacturing fine earthenware and glassware since 1845. An authentic jewel of Bordeaux, this hall of character brings together architectural heritage, history and craftsmanship. Its location gives it an ideal position, in a modern district of the city where culture is constantly developing. It’s close to the Cap Sciences museum, one of the best places to bring your children, the Cité du Vin for a cultural approach to the Bordeaux specialty, and the Base Sous-Marine for unique immersive exhibitions.
A little history of the Faïencerie
Built in 1835, this former factory played a part in the industrialization of earthenware in France, before becoming a storage facility for barrels and then a shipping liner on the Garonne River. In short, it’s one of the most significant symbols of the Industrial Revolution, a testimony to the history of the Docks. A true jewel of craftsmanship, its raw, industrial architecture contrasts with its striking modern appearance.
What can you do at La Faïencerie?
This converted hangar now serves as a reception hall, and its spaces can be rented and fitted out for any type of event. So if you’re planning an extravagant wedding or anniversary in the next few years, it’s perfect for you! And if your boss is looking for a place to hold the next team party, you can drop him a line.
Recently, La Faïencerie has also played host to artistic events, such as the Candlelight concerts and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition. So who knows what the future holds?
What can you expect when you enter the Faïencerie?
Welcome to the largest reception area in the heart of Bordeaux. As soon as you arrive, you enter La Bibliothèque, the 200 m2 “little room” with its warm industrial charm. This is followed by the main hall, La Fabrique, with a capacity of 600 people on a surface area of 1,200 m2. That’s all there is to it! And if that wasn’t enough, La Loge completes the space with its 170 m2 of totally soundproofed space, so you can enjoy music at the volume you want, without disturbing the neighbors!
How to get there?
From downtown, take line B and get off at La Cité du Vin, and you’ll find yourself a 5-minute walk from this sublime venue. But when the weather’s fine, we’d recommend walking or cycling along the quays for a pleasant stroll.
A landmark of Bordeaux life, the Faïencerie is the new hostess of cultural events. Right in the heart of the city, a stone’s throw from the quays and the Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge, this unusual and unprecedented space is now part of the list of sumptuous venues to have hosted Candlelight.
