While Bordeaux is best known for its wine and canelés, we’re no less spoiled when it comes to chocolatiers. Whether it’s for Easter, Valentine’s Day, or just a moment of indulgence, we’ve explored our Sleeping Beauty to share our favorite spots with you. From praline to milk to caramel, there’s something for everyone! To share (or not) with friends or family!
Maison Saunion

What makes Maison Saunion special? A history that has spanned generations of Bordeaux residents (no wonder— the company has been open since 1893!), a traditional workshop in the heart of the city, and above all, a shop that has won numerous awards from chocolate lovers! Our favorite? Their Châtaigne: a chocolate ball shaped and looking just like the chestnut it’s named after, filled with chestnut cream and Périgord walnuts! We love it!
Chocolaterie Lalère

Xavier Lalère has had a burning passion for chocolate for nearly ten years, and it shows. In his shop near the Palais Gallien, Lalère created Bordeaux’s first chocolate bar! The concept: enjoy chocolates on the spot with your choice of a hot or cold drink. A chocolate break is a must on Rue Fondaudège.
Hasnaâ Chocolats Grands Crus

If you’re looking for something unique, here it is! Discovered in 2012 on the TV show MasterChef, Hasnaâ Ferreira stands out from other chocolatiers thanks to her useof surprising ingredients in her recipes: poppy flower ganache , Burgundy blackcurrant, hibiscus, rum-banana… We fell in love with these chocolates, with their unique flavors and their precise, meticulous craftsmanship.
Maison Darricau

Maison Darricau isn’t just a simple chocolate shop; it’s a haven of excellence for all Bordeaux residents passionate about cocoa. Nestled in the heart of downtown, their boutique is filled with products crafted with meticulous expertise and unmatched flavor. We particularly love their Grains de Sable (chocolate praline cubes rolled in hazelnuts) and their Pavés (almond balls macerated in Graves wine): these make perfect gifts!
Cadiot Badie

Thanks to its exceptional expertise passed down through generations since 1826, Cadiot Badie can boast of being Bordeaux’s oldest chocolate shop! Its “créoles”—cherries macerated in rum, coated in chocolate, and inspired by Bordeaux’s “guinette”—are the stars of this shop located on the Allées de Tourny. Enough to tempt any liqueur lover!
Chocolaterie Origines – Chocolate makers

Located in the heart of the Darwin ecosystem, Chocolaterie Origines stands out for its radical and transparent approach. As the first French chocolate shop that is both organic and fully open to visitors, it invites chocolate lovers to uncover the secrets of its production. A master of the “Bean-to-Bar” method, the workshop transforms raw beans right before visitors’ eyes, guaranteeing exceptional traceability and purity. From matte-finish bars to their famous fountain, every creation celebrates sustainable craftsmanship. It’s the go-to destination for those seeking to combine ecological convictions with the highest culinary standards.
Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse, Le Comptoir Bordeaux

Nestled on Rue des Remparts, the Bordeaux branch of Chocolaterie Alain Ducasse stands out as a must-visit stop for purists. Here, they cultivate the art of “Bean-to-Bar”: the cocoa beans are rigorously selected, roasted, and processed using traditional methods to preserve their original character. You’ll findthe signature 75% blend, a true emblem of the house, which will delight those seeking an intense and authentic sensory experience in the heart of Bordeaux.
Chocolaterie Guinetterie Landry

In Villenave-d’Ornon, Chocolaterie Landry delights chocolate lovers in many ways. Ganaches, pralines, and chocolate bars are handcrafted with a personal touch. The shop’s star product is the authentic Guinette Bordelaise, that famous cherry in liqueur coated in dark chocolate. A must-visit for lovers of chocolate and local traditions.
