New year, new calendar! Why not take this opportunity to identify the dates that will help you make the most of the 2027 holidays? With a little magic (and strategy), it’s possible to turn 19 days off into 43 days of rest. Because even though the calendar is a bit less generous than in some years, a few combinations still let you seriously extend your weekends. Here are the dates to mark on your calendar.
A Closer Look at the 2027 Calendar
Before you start scheduling days off, it’s best to know the year’s must-see events. For residents of Bordeaux, school breaks follow the Zone A calendar:
- The winter break will run from February 13 to 28.
- The spring holidays from April 10 to 25.
- The summer vacation will begin on Saturday, July 3.
- The school year begins on September 2.
- The All Saints’ Day break will run from October 23 to November 8.
As for public holidays, 2027 is a bit less generous. May 1, May 8, and Christmas will fall on a Saturday, while the Assumption will be celebrated on a Sunday. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on long weekends!
Tips for Making the Most of Your Vacation Time in 2027

After taking a close look at the calendar and doing some calculations, here are the best times to take your vacation days in 2027. (These calculations are based on a workweek from Monday through Friday.)
In the spring, 21 days off for 10 vacation days
The first good opportunity of the year comes with Easter Monday (March 29). By taking four days off from Tuesday, March 30, through Friday, April 2, you can be away for 9 consecutive days, from Saturday, March 27, through Sunday, April 4.
May remains a month to watch closely. WithAscension Day falling on Thursday, May 6, and Pentecost Monday (May 17), this makes it easy to enjoy an extended break: 12 days off for just 6 days of vacation (by taking May 7, 10, 11, 12, and 13 off).
In the summer, 9 days off in the sun for just 4 days of vacation
National Day falls this year on Wednesday, July 14. This arrangement allows for a real summer break.
By taking July 12, 13, 15, and 16 off, you’ll get 9 consecutive days off, from Saturday, July 10, through Sunday, July 18. Just four days of vacation to enjoy a week and a half away from the office during summer break.
In the fall, 5 days off for 13 days of rest
Fall also offers a few opportunities. November 1 falls on a Monday, which already lets you enjoy a three-day weekend without taking any time off. By adding days off from the 2nd to the 5th, you can enjoy 9 days off during the All Saints’ Day break.
A few days later, it’s the same story with Armistice Day, Thursday, November 11. By taking Friday the 12th off, you’ll once again enjoy 4 days off.
