Are there any chocolatine lovers in the house? We have some good news for you! In Bordeaux, the Grain bakery has just won the title of Best Chocolatine in Gironde for 2027. This award confirms the expertise of this Saint-Seurin neighborhood spot, which had already been recognized in 2024. Behind its minimalist display cases, this bakery and pastry shop focuses on homemade goods, high-quality ingredients, and meticulous artisanal craftsmanship.
A double victory for Grain
The competition for the best chocolatine in Gironde was held in the reception halls of Bordeaux City Hall. Before a jury of eleven members, Grain emerged victorious in two categories: the apprentices’ category and the employees’ category. This is a wonderful recognition for the entire team, which had already won this competition in 2024.
Opened in 2021 at 43 Rue Capdeville, the shop was born from a partnership between two passionate artisans: baker Nicolas Gruel, the 2019 French and European champion, and pastry chef Jean-Philippe Battesti. Their ambition? To offer artisanal creations that showcase the finest ingredients.
This accolade adds to an impressive list of achievements. Grain had already been recognized for its traditional baguette in 2024 and made a name for itself on the M6 TV show *La Meilleure Boulangerie de France* in 2023, taking second place nationally.
From bread to pastries, the taste of homemade goodness
At Grain, it’s hard to resist the pastries… and the entire display case! Bread is baked fresh daily on-site, croissants are carefully shaped, and pastries are made entirely in-house. The team also prioritizes fresh, seasonal ingredients, with a menu that changes throughout the year.
The selection is intentionally limited, but the offerings are no less indulgent. Depending on the season, you’ll find various sourdough breads, fruit tarts, desserts, cookies, and even focaccia. The flan is also one of the shop’s must-try items, regularly praised by regulars.
Another distinctive feature is the shop’s visual identity. With its exposed concrete, oak wood, and minimalist lines, Grain boasts a contemporary decor that stands in stark contrast to the traditional image of a neighborhood bakery. The warm welcome and the quality of the products also help build customer loyalty.
That’s a great reason to stop by this Bordeaux spot. And why not use the award-winning chocolatine as an opportunity to try their bread and pastries as well?
