Biarritz has always known how to host rugby in a unique way. Here, the oval ball doesn’t just fill a stadium—it’s part of the landscape, just like the waves and the terraces that are still packed in September. It’s only natural that this seaside town was chosen as the third stop onthe Ultimate Sevens tour, the new rugby sevens tournament. New tournament, new teams… The stakes are high, and tickets are on sale now!
A format designed for all ages
Forget the 80-minute games and the never-ending halftime break. Ultimate Sevens packs it all in: matches lasting about ten minutes, with no breaks, so the action never stops. The tournament follows a highly dynamic single-elimination format, where every match is decisive.
The admission policy is very simple: a single ticket grants access to the entire evening of competition, not just a single match. In Biarritz, as elsewhere, the Parc des Sports Aguilera will become the venue for a series of matches, from the qualifying rounds through to the final stages, all taking place simultaneously, transforming the arena into a nonstop spectacle.
Six clubs, six identities, a constellation of stars
Behind this new tournament lies a structure unprecedented in rugby: six founding clubs, each representing a major region of the global rugby world. Foudre Bleue represents France, alongsideAlbion Athletic (England), Atlantic Novas ( Celtic nations), Pacific Current(Oceania), Clan Taran ( North America), and Sol Feroz (South America and Spain). Each club fields a men’s team and a women’s team.
To build its rosters, Ultimate Sevens has adopteda “marquee player” system, featuring starplayers signed in advance to represent each club both on and off the field. Among the first names confirmed for the tournament are three-time medalist Maddison Levi of Australia, Abbie Brown of England, Lucas Lacamp of the United States, and Krissy Scurfield of Canada. The rest of the rosters, including the final lineup for Foudre Bleue, will be determined during the inaugural draft to be held in July 2026, where approximately 60 international players from the world sevens circuit will be selected.

Gender equality as the backbone of the project
This is undoubtedly the most unique aspectof Ultimate Sevens: from its very first edition, the tournament has made gender parity a founding principle rather than just a marketing gimmick. Each of the six founding clubs fields both a men’s team and a women’s team, with strictly identical status. In Biarritz, a city where women’s rugby has long found its audience, this approach resonates particularly well.
The Basque leg of a European tour
The inaugural seasonof Ultimate Sevens spans four cities, each with its own identity. Madrid kicks things off in early September with a more urban and festive vibe; Cardiff hosts the second stop; London wraps up the season. In between, Biarritz brings a deeply rooted rugby culture and that late-summer atmosphere that still lingers on the Côte des Basques in mid-September.
For that is precisely the promise of this Biarritz leg: not to reduce the event to a mere sports tournament, but to make it a seasonal interlude, where people come as much for the intensity of the matches as for the art of living. The beach in the morning, the stands in the afternoon, a terrace in the evening… That’s how you fully experience theUltimate Sevens atmosphere.
