Do you like surfing? From July 7 to 13, 2025, the central beach of Lacanau Océan becomes the center of surf culture with the Caraïbos Lacanau Pro, one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious surfing competitions! Only an hour from Bordeaux, this free event is set to become the major sporting, festive and committed event of the summer for the Girondins!
A legendary competition on the Atlantic coast
Created in 1979, the Caraïbos Lacanau Pro is a flagship event in the World Surf League ‘s Qualifying Series (QS 2000). Every year, this not-to-be-missed event attracts over 150 international surfers vying for their ticket to the Championship Tour. A veritable springboard for European talent, the competition has seen the emergence of such legends as Kelly Slater, crowned champion here in 1994!
What’s in store for you? On the waves of Gironde, the show is guaranteed: spectacular events, live commentary and an immersion in the world of surfing! Heats start every day, depending on sea conditions. And yes, to surf, you need good waves, and AI can’t do that yet! And that’s just as well, because it adds the little dose of suspense we love!
Much more than a sporting event
In addition to the surf competition, which promises to be rich in emotion, the Lacanau Pro offers a dense and festive program throughout the week. Not least on the skateboarding front! The Skate Plazza promises to be a real highlight, with free initiations every day, amateur contests on Friday evening and the eagerly-awaited Goats of Laca on Saturday, bringing together the best riders for a high-flying show!
If you’re more into atmosphere than competition, the entertainment village set up on the beach offers a wide range of activities: sports demonstrations, board sports initiations, wellness workshops, screenings, a skatepark and ephemeral boutiques! And for those who can’t do without music, the daily After Beach DJ sets (6pm to 8:30pm), followed by live concerts and themed evenings, will extend the festivities every evening until midnight… and beyond! One thing’s for sure: you won’t get bored!
But if there’s one thing you won’t want to miss, it’s the awards ceremony on Sunday, July 13! What’s so special about it? Because a Tribute to Oasis concert by the group Osiris and a spectacular fireworks display followed by a DJ set until 2 a.m. are planned, and no one would want to miss that!
A committed and inclusive event
Lacanau Pro 2025 is also an eco-responsible and inclusive event. Numerous associations (Surfrider, Handi Surf, Wings of the Ocean, etc.) will be present to raise festival-goers’ awareness of environmental issues and inclusion. Workshops, waste collection, quizzes, demonstrations of adapted surfing… The aim is to show that everyone can get involved in their own way!
