Visit “the 8th wonder of the world” less than two hours from Bordeaux
There are countless superlatives for the Phare de Cordouan which has stood enthroned in the Gironde estuary for over 400 years. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on a par with the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids of Egypt, the Cordouan lighthouse considered a true “wonder of the world” is the only lighthouse in the world considered a monument in its own right. In fact, it’s nicknamed the “Versailles of the seas”. For the Journées du Patrimoine et du Matrimoine (Heritage Days), entry is free, but the boat crossing remains chargeable.
📍 Location: boat from Le Verdon-sur-Mer
📆 Dates and times: September 21 and 22
🎟️ Free entrance to the lighthouse, but boat crossing remains paying.
