When the days get shorter and the desire for magic arises, some choose the illuminated villages, others the Christmas markets or a trip to a pitorresque village. But just a few hours from Bordeaux, a European capital is staging one of the continent’s most impressive winter events. An enchanting atmosphere, lights everywhere, and crowds from all over the world to experience a Christmas like no other.
One of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the world, just a few hours from Bordeaux.

Every winter, Brussels dons a sparkling costume that smells of cinnamon and mulled wine for its big Christmas event: Plaisirs d’Hiver. From November 28, 2025 to January 4, 2026, the city center of the European capital is transformed into a huge Christmas village. A veritable institution, the event attracts huge crowds every year. In 2024, 4.2 million visitors flocked to the site. The warm atmosphere of the site, and the diversity of the entertainment on offer, are the main reasons for this.
At the heart of this grand celebration is a Christmas market that regularly makes the headlines. Voted “the most beautiful Christmas market in Europe and the world” by Best Christmas Market and Big 7 Travel in 2022, it spans several districts and features over 238 chalets. From hand-crafted creations to local specialties, traditional decorations and seasonal delicacies, it’s a real plunge into the Christmas spirit.
An enchanting program
Once again this year, the program promises magical moments. The traditional, majestic Christmas tree will take pride of place on the Grand Place, where a sublime sound and light show will also be held. A large ice rink will be set up on Place De Brouckère, while Santa Claus will be present in his workshop on Place Sainte-Catherine. There’s also a Ferris wheel, an illuminated carousel, a nativity scene and choirs.
And don’t forget to explore some of the city’s must-sees: the Baroque and Gothic facades of the historic center, the Parc du Cinquantenaire, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, or the typical pubs where you can enjoy one (or more) local beers.
With direct flights taking less than 2 hours, it’s the ideal getaway for Bordeaux residents in search of Christmas magic. It’s a great opportunity to get away from it all and enjoy a unique holiday atmosphere. With mulled wine, Belgian fries and homemade chocolate, your senses will be festive from start to finish!
